Which Frying Oil is Best for My Business?

With so many different frying oils available in today’s market, it’s sometimes difficult to know which is the best choice for your business.
You need to consider more than just cost – the health aspects of cooking oil are increasingly important to your customers, and many will ask what type you use, or (especially in takeaways) look for in-store signage to reassure themselves that in buying from you, they’re making a healthy choice.
This can make a big difference both in attracting casual customers and ensuring repeat business.
In order to make an informed choice about which oil you use, it’s essential to know your oils! The following list will help make the process easier.

CANOLA – GOOD OIL

  • High levels of (healthier) monounsaturated fats, low levels of saturated fats, virtually free of trans-fats
  • Meets the Heart Foundation Tick requirements
  • Non GM

PALM OIL – GOOD OIL

  • A lower-cost alternative to canola that’s still virtually free of trans-fats
  • Can be blended with more expensive, healthier oils such as high oleic sunflower oil to provide a cheaper option
  • Non GM
  • Ideal for bakery use due to its solid fat content.

CANOLA/PALM BLEND – BETTER OIL

  • The canola oil component of this blend provides lower saturated and higher monounsaturated fat levels, along with some
  • Omega-3 healthy oils. Still virtually trans-fat free.
  • The palm oil component is solid fat which improves frying stability.
  • Non GM

HIGH OLEIC SUNFLOWER OIL – BEST OIL

  • Very high levels of monounsaturated fats and lower in saturated and polyunsaturated fats compared with normal sunflower oil
  • A good frying medium
  • Virtually transfree
  • Non GM
  • Meets the Heart Foundation Tick requirements
  • Can be blended with cheaper oils to reduce cost
